our beach house
From using a 200 year old technique of plastering the inside walls with a mix of egg white, egg shells and lime that give the walls a lovely smooth finish, to the pebbles embedded in the sit out, the Tree of Life mural on the entrance, an old door converted into a dining table, teak wood doors and windows sourced and lovingly restored from buildings belonging to the British Raj, every part of the house has a story to tell.
Local laterite stones were used to build the house. The use of egg and lime on the wall meant the walls could be left unpainted (all rooms but one) and for life will not require a coat of paint. The eggshells mixed in the plaster work as a natural repellent for lizards.
The house has been designed to catch the sea breeze in every room and do away with the need for air conditioners even in the peak of Indian summers.
Built on a stretch as yet undiscovered by tourists, The Blue Matsya, runs on the goodwill of the locals who benefit from the guests who visit it. The fisherman and his wife who double up as caretakers, the local restaurants you call for take outs, the autorickshaw drivers who will do a door pick up, the boatman who will take you into the sea, all of them are neighbours you can call at any time. No matter how big or small your request they will tap into their network to find a way of fulfilling it. In fact The Blue Matsya cannot function without the help and support of these neighbours who come together to ensure you are safe, and cared for. Genuine, and simple, all they want in return is that you respect and not upset local sentiment.

There are two good sized bedrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor
with its own large private terrace. Both bedrooms have their own bathrooms–, large
and tastefully accessorized with linen and towels to make your stay comfortable.

The living area has a double futon and two single futons that can sleep 4 people,
the bedrooms can each sleep 2 people. Blue Matsya can happily accommodate 8 people.

the kitchen
The house has an open plan kitchen and living room that opens into a sit out facing the sea.
Attached to the living area is a small but cute bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with
a microwave, cooking gas, refrigerator, cookware, dinnerware, water purification system
and a washing machine.

house keeping and getting around
Although a self catering accommodation, Ramanna, the caretaker will come once a day to clean the house and do the dishes. For a very nominal amount, his wife, Sarsuakka, can provide a simple yet lovely local breakfast.
If you prefer, a car and driver can be arranged, for a day or throughout the duration of your stay. Autorickshaw drivers are just a phone call away if you want to go anywhere locally.
You will find the locals to be shy but very helpful and honest. A safe and secure place.
